Perspectus #7
The Code Red “Perspectus”
To tell you the truth, when I first thought about writing this I didn’t have a single clue about what to write or even where to start until I read something that a team member and colleague wrote. He made me think of why I actually am par of Code Red. I am not part of Code Red just because I like building robots. I am on Code Red because of the people, the fun, and the experiences I have with the team. The team as a whole becomes a closely knit group of people, almost like an extended family. Not to say the work and long hours working on the robot aren’t fun (they are), but that’s not what keeps me coming back. The first year I joined because of the attraction to building an actual robot, and it was a good way for me to meet new people since it was my first year in this school. By the end of the season my closest friends were on Code Red and today I continue to make new friends through of robotics.
This year, Code Red Robotics is doing well. We are a little behind schedule but we will overcome the time constraints. The team is coalescing into what a team should be. We all are having fun and working hard to finish the robot and having fun while doing it, the veterans like myself are teaching the new members a lot and they are teaching us, too. We have a wide variety of people with a lot of ideas and skills that the team can draw from. A member learned to weld aluminum this year and is great at it. A rookie took a huge role in presenting an idea that he believed would make a great kicker, despite some worries from the veterans. Tensions do run high at times but in the end we are still a team and will work well together to accomplish our goal.
